ALL THE KINGS MEN:
Director Charles Horton

All The King's Men is a male-voice liturgical choir, associated with the College Chapel of St. John the Evangelist at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Much of their music draws from a rich tradition of Latin and English choral music for men's voices within the context of the Anglican services of Evensong and Compline. Much of the repertoire is early period. Saturday, July 24, 2010: MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL

Daytime activities noon until 6PM. Feast at 6 PM. Along with the usual medieval entertainments of jousting and feasting, this festival also features a number of half hour sets of music by various Winnipeg ensembles in the lovely acoustics of the church sanctuary. Groups performing Early Music in the church include This Merrie Companie, The Amindra Consort, BB and the Avocado, ReSound!, and Lisa Marie Tucker. More information forthcoming. Harpsichordist Sylvia Scott Wortley invites us into her beautiful Crescentwood home for a series of concerts. Each concert is followed by a complimentary reception of tea, coffee, fruit punch and pastries. Linger to meet the artists and to examine the instruments.

October 23, 24, 2010: VIVA VALDI

In the spirit fo Vivaldi’s music for the ospedale, or schools for young women in 18th c. Italy, virtuoso violinist Oleg Pokhanovski will collaborate with emerging artists in a program which will highlight music by Vitali, Locatelli, and a concerto for four violins by the red priest himself, Antonio Vivaldi.

January 22, 23, 2011: SOME LIKE IT HOT!
Maria Luz Alvarez, Spanish baroque concert and recording artist, will present a passionate program that will include Spanish songs ranging from those of the florid renaissance to the flowing melodies of the high baroque period. The heart will beat to the heat of Spanish flamenco dancer Pedro Aurelio.

April 30, May 1, 2011: THE CHOICE OF HERCULES
This semi-staged opera, written in 1751, is filled with Handel’s well loved melodies. The opera will be sung in English by a costumed cast who will trace the dilemma of Hercules as he struggles between the Pleasure and Virtue.
Pleasure: Jessica Strong, soprano; Virtue: Jennifer Sproule, mezzo-soprano; Hercules: Aran Matsuda, baritone; Attendant on Pleasure: Conrad Siebert, tenor; accompanied by a chorus and a baroque orchestra under the direction of Kathleen Kajioka, concertmaster.

Sunday November 21, 2010: BAROQUE BEAMS
3:00 PM. The Musical Offering presents for the twelfth season a concert showcasing talented young Manitoba artists who are incorporating baroque music into their studies.

English music came alive with its greatest 17th century composer, Henry Purcell. Other English composers followed, leading to the London residencies of Handel and Johann Christian Bach - the 'London Bach' as he came to be known.

July 15 - 24: STARBACH'S THE COFFEE CANTATA

What happens when you can't get your daily fix, coffee or otherwise?!

StarBachs: The Coffee Cantata is the caffeinated version of J.S. Bachs mini-masterpiece, revamped for the modern world.

Sung in English and set in everyones favourite coffee house, its Bach like you’ve never seen it before! The professional cast and crew is made up of faculty from Manitoba’s top music schools.
The Story: Schlendrian (David Klassen) is an old-fashioned sort of guy, who detests living todays fast-paced world characterized by coffee-to-go. Meanwhile, his sister Lieschen (Naomi Forman) is hopelessly addicted to coffee and has a huge crush on her barista, Taylor the Latte Boy (Darren Martens). The show contains all the music of Bachs so-called "Kaffee Kantate" (Its original title was "Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht" B.W.V 211) plus additional songs glorifying our favourite morning drink.
